Quick Heart Update

by Ian Clark on July 22, 2011

Today I had my check up with the cardiologist. Its been about 6 months since my last visit to the Heart Center at Carle Clinic in Urbana.

I went all by myself. Which, honestly, I didn’t think was a big deal. But this morning when I was talking with my wife over the phone, I found out that going alone was actually considered a milestone. She told me, “I think you’re ready to go by yourself.”

I thought that was kinda weird. We’ve known for a while now that I’m going to be just fine. After all, I’m almost fully recovered (physically speaking).

So, I went by myself. I went through the normal check up stuff with the nurse before I meet with my cardiologist. Blood pressure was 102 over 60. I’m guessing that was because I swam for an hour earlier this morning. My doctor walks into the room and greets me by asking how I’ve been doing. To which I say, “Well.”

He then notices that my wife, Crystal, isn’t with me and says, “I see you’re all by yourself, so you must be doing good!”

Apparently going to this check up by myself was a milestone…still not sure why. I do realize I often I forget how traumatic of an experience my family went through last year.

I do have good news to report. Everything looks good. I was taken off my blood thinners and the Doc says he doesn’t need to see me again for a whole year. I am pretty happy about that. Those blood thinners were making it so even the littlest bump would make a bruise on my skin that would last for a month.

So there’s my quick heart update. As always, I’m grateful. It’s all a gift.
